Competitve Rulings

1. Black Dragon Shield
Qn.
Can I use Black Dragon Shield in response to my opponent's impact even though the impact cannot be reduced or nullified?

Ans. Yes. Text on cards tend to try to fulfill everything they can written on it. In this case, you can use Black Dragon Shield but the damage will not be reduced but you are able to gain +1 life.

2. Black Dragon Shield
Qn.
Can I use Black Dragon Shield when I'm taking damage from <Penetrate> or<LifeLink> ?

Ans. You cannot cast Black Dragon Shield in response to taking damage from <Penetrate> because <Penetrate> happens the moment your monster is attacked. Because your monster is still in your center, the requirement for Black Dragon Shield is not met.
You can however cast Black Dragon Shield in response to LifeLink because it happens after your monster leaves the field. As long as you don't have a monster in the center, the conditions for Black Dragon Shield are met.

3. Distortion Punisher!!
Qn.
If my opponent calls an Impact Monster on his Final Phase, can I use Distortion Punisher in reponse to the call?

Ans. Yes. Impact monsters are both counted as Impacts and Monsters so calling it also means that you are casting an impact, if your opponent is at 4 life or less with his center open, you can cast Distortion Punisher.

4. Fifth Omni Dragon Lord, Drum
Qn. If I have a Fifth Omni Dragon Lord Drum on the field when I cast Dragoguts, will I be able to trigger Drum's effect if my life is at 7 while casting the spell?

Ans. No. When you cast Dragoguts, paying the cast cost you take 1 damage, which triggers Drum's automatic ability which will go on standby. After resolving Dragoguts to gain 3 life, this is when Drum's ability will resolve. It will essentially check your life points to see if the conditions are met, if your life is at more than 6 after resolving Dragoguts, Drum's destruction effect will not trigger.

5. Demonic Demise Dragon Azi Dahaka
Qn.
If I use Demonic Demise Dragon Azi Dahaka to attack and my opponent uses Damage Control's effect to discard Ice Blade Joker ,thus calling it, will Azi Dahaka hit Ice Blade Joker?

Ans. No. When Azi Dahaka attacks, 'Erasure Of HIstory' activates, changing the target to all monsters and players on the field. When your opponent uses Damage Control in response to the attack, the effect did not change the attack to Ice Blade Joker as it has yet to enter the field, thus not hitting Ice Blade Joker.

Qn. After my Azi Dahaka attacks, I cast Hundred Demons Sorcery, Rineryusho to destroy my Azi Dahaka, thus searching out Demonic Demise Sword Aqulta Gwaneff.
Does my opponent have a timing to cast Barbed Wires on the item?

Ans. Yes, they have a timing to cast Barbed Wires on Aqulta Gwaneff because your opponent has a timing to cast a spell in response to you ending your battle step.

6. Dragonarms Garbel Anchor

Qn.
If I have Dragonarms Garbel Anchor and Dragonarms Transportal in my card's soul , while attacking, can I activate Garbel Anchor's ability when my opponent casts a shield?

Ans. Yes and No. When your neodragon attacks with both dragonarms in it's soul, Dragonarms Transportal's mandatory effect activates, because this effect triggers while the card is attacking, your opponent can cast a card in response to your Transportal's effect, giving you no timing to activate you Garbel Anchor's ability.
However if your opponent does not respond to you Transportal's effect you may still use Garbel Anchor's ability.

7. Calling Of Monsters
Qn.
Can I use Death Grip or Sudden Death before my opponent uses the monster he calls as a cost for summoning another monster? I.E Azi Dahaka /Demios Inferno

Ans. No. There is no timing for you to cast a spell. When he declare that he is calling a monster, that monster has not touched the field, thus cards like Death Grip will not work. After he calls the monster, the next time where you can cast a <counter> is only when he does something however calling cards like Demios Inferno or Azi Dahaka has priority over the <counter> because of turn player priority.

*Take note that you may still use a <counter> on your opponent if he chooses to use the on-play ability of a card*

Qn.
Can I use the gauge paid for the card's call cost to put into the soul of that card?
I.e Fifth Omni Drum/Third Omni Miserea

Ans. No. Putting a card into it's soul is part of it's call cost, it happens concurrently as paying the gauge.
